Natural History Museum
The Natural History Museum opened to the public in 1881, with its building and Romanesque facade designed by Alfred Waterhouse. The Museum has continued to develop over its 145 years. We recently completed the Urban Nature Project, transforming our five acres of grounds into a living gallery and lush natural space in central London. This project has also opened a new event space, our Garden Kitchen, which, along with the Darwin Centre, gives clients multiple indoor-outdoor spaces to host their events. In addition to being the most visited attraction in the UK, steeped in history, the Museum has developed into a pioneering institution for scientific research, and has become one of London’s favourite event venues. The Venue Hire team hosted over 130 events in 2025, welcoming over 40,000 guests. The added magic of hosting an event at the Museum is that it did not originate as an events venue. The Museum has been a beacon of the study of natural history since its founding. All profits from venue hire bookings support the Museum’s charitable mission, including the work of our 400 scientists conducting research and finding solutions to the planetary emergency.
