Sustainability Award for Venues
BMA House
BMA House is a Grade II listed venue proving that heritage and sustainability can work together. Guided by its Carbon Neutral Pathway to 2030, the venue has embedded sustainability across operations, catering, refurbishments, supplier choices, staff culture and client support.
In 2025 and early 2026, BMA House strengthened its evidence-led approach, maintaining Platinum ECOsmart accreditation and Gold Green Tourism status, working with From Now Access, and to Greengage’s EVENTsmart carbon measurement tool for clearer client reporting. It has also signed Greengage’s Conscious Pledge and is working towards EcoVadis accreditation.
Its catering strategy has removed beef and high-impact red meat, with around 73% of menus now vegetarian or vegan. Its 2025 Planet Report recorded 96% of seafood rated 1 to 3 by the Marine Conservation Society, 70.3% of animal products welfare certified, and £30,278 of F&B spend with social enterprises and diverse suppliers.
Operationally, BMA House is Zero Waste to Landfill, 100% single-use plastic free in venue catering, and powered by renewable grid electricity. New activity includes coffee waste recycling, TerraCycle crisp packet recycling, and a team Sustainability Workshop to strengthen confident client advice.
Church House Westminster
Church House Westminster operates as a net zero, Grade II listed venue, demonstrating how a high-use, multi-purpose building can deliver reduced environmental impact while maintaining commercial performance.
A carbon-negative refurbishment underpins current operations, with 1,260 tonnes of CO₂ sequestered through material choices including cork flooring and carbon-absorbing paint. Day-to-day performance includes an almost 80% reduction in electricity use, significant water savings, and zero waste to landfill.
Sustainability is embedded across governance, operations and supply chains. Partnerships with Searcys and Principle Cleaning Services enable low-carbon catering, chemical-free cleaning and reduced resource use. Plant-based menus are the default, driving increased uptake, while concentrated product delivery reduces transport emissions and packaging.
All events are supported with carbon measurement, extending impact beyond the venue. Community activity includes food redistribution, education engagement and biodiversity initiatives within a constrained urban site.
This approach provides a working model for how historic, high-occupancy venues can operate at net zero through practical, repeatable actions across buildings, supply chains and client activity.
Events@No6 – The Royal College of Pathology
Events @ No 6, located within the headquarters of The Royal College of Pathologists, is a leading example of how sustainability can be fully integrated into venue operations, design and hospitality delivery. Working in partnership with Vacherin, Pareto FM and Nuserve, the venue has created a collaborative sustainability model that delivers measurable environmental impact while maintaining exceptional guest experiences.
The venue’s environmentally conscious design includes passive cooling through exposed concrete ceilings and overnight ventilation, a living biodiversity roof and extensive natural daylighting to reduce energy consumption. Operationally, Events @ No 6 has committed to becoming a zero waste to landfill venue through food waste reduction, reusable catering equipment and sustainable waste management practices.
Its catering partner, Vacherin, has implemented plant-forward menus linked to an estimated 45% reduction in menu-related carbon emissions, alongside local and seasonal sourcing to reduce food miles and support independent suppliers.
Combined with strong public transport accessibility, sustainable facilities management and recognised industry credentials, Events @ No 6 demonstrates outstanding leadership, innovation and long-term commitment to sustainability across every aspect of venue operations.
Excel London
Since opening our doors just over 25-years ago, Excel London has firmly established itself as one of the UK’s leading event venues.
Yet this success is not just down to providing world-class facilities, our owners, staff, event organisers, exhibitors and visitors all value our wider purpose and dedication to sustainability…and making an impact.
More importantly, our aim is to use our platform – and the four million people who grace our venue every year – to inform and inspire others to play their part in tackling the climate emergency.
As well as supporting seven local charity partners (up from five last year), we are immensely proud of our achievements to date, most notably being certified carbon neutral back in 2022 and now committing to a Net Zero target of 2045.
We also use 100% renewable electricity, send zero waste to landfill (and have done for more than 10 years), and even house the UK’s largest wormery. We are also proudly a Planet Mark Certified Business meaning all of our Scope 1, 2 and core Scope 3 carbon emissions have been fully verified by a third-party, independent company.
Our vision is to be a sustainability leader within the events industry.
Hilton London Bankside
Hilton London Bankside is a multi-award-winning hotel in the heart of London, where sustainability is embedded into every aspect of the business. Guided by Hilton’s Travel with Purpose strategy, the hotel became only the second hotel in the UK to achieve certification from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), demonstrating its commitment to internationally recognised sustainability standards.
Environmental initiatives include energy and water conservation measures, refillable water stations, low-carbon innovations, food waste reduction programmes and responsible sourcing from regional suppliers. The hotel has achieved significant reductions in energy consumption through operational efficiencies and continues to invest in future-focused projects, including a solar panel installation expected to generate approximately 55,000kWh of renewable energy annually.
Sustainability extends beyond environmental performance. Through partnerships with organisations including The Manna Society, Better Bankside, Living Bankside and Southwark College, the hotel supports community wellbeing, skills development and employment opportunities. Innovative guest experiences, including one of the world’s first vegan hotel suites and recyclable volcanic rock bicycles, further demonstrate how responsible hospitality can enhance the guest journey.
By combining measurable environmental progress, meaningful community impact and long-term investment, Hilton London Bankside continues to demonstrate leadership in sustainable hospitality and events.
IET London: Savoy Place
Located in the heart of Westminster and home to 22 adaptable event spaces including two-tiered lecture theatres, IET London: Savoy Place is one of the capital’s leading event venues, reopening in 2015 after a two-year refurbishment. It combines state-of-the-art AV facilities, exceptional customer service and spectacular views of the River Thames to deliver purpose-driven events.
Savoy Place is aligned with four of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), guiding its actions. It ensures procurement and event delivery are as sustainable as possible, while continually reducing impact and engaging the local Westminster community. This approach enables clients to support more responsible events without compromising on quality or experience.
At the venue, sustainability is not only prioritised, it is embedded. Not a greenwashing gimmick with words that sound good in theory but have nothing to back them up in practice, sustainability comes as standard at Savoy Place – showing how a busy events venue can flourish when run sustainably.
Olympia Events
For almost 140 years, Olympia has hosted world-class exhibitions, conferences and live events in central London. Today, a £1.3bn regeneration is transforming the historic venue into a leading destination for entertainment, hospitality, culture and business. Olympia Events manages the destination’s heritage halls alongside a new International Convention Centre (ICC) and premium lounge opening this year.
Sustainability is embedded across its operations through The Grand Plan, its long-term sustainability strategy focused on Community, Environment and Collaboration. The venue works closely with clients, employees, suppliers, partners and visitors to drive sustainable behaviours and deliver measurable outcomes.
Collaboration is central to the venue’s approach. In 2025, it launched Carbon Literacy Training across the business and partnered with organisers including London Wine Fair to deliver initiatives such as a Sustainability Trail, visitor guidance and material reuse programmes benefiting the local community.
Environmentally, they redistributed 2.6 tonnes of surplus food through City Harvest, maintained a recycling rate of over 98%, diverted 100% of waste from landfill for the 14th consecutive year and operated on 100% renewable electricity.
Alongside volunteering, community partnerships and charitable giving, including £37,975 awarded through its Charitable Trust in 2025, they continue to create lasting social, environmental and economic value.
